The valleys of the Morelense region where Xochitepec is located were occupied by man since prehistoric times. In the sixteenth century, when the area was invaded by the Spanish alliance, the economic life of Xochitepec was governed by the control of aqueducts, dams, suspension bridges, and granaries. These invaders were dedicated to the construction of large convents and churches and by the end of the 18th century they had expanded into the construction of sugar mills to such an extent that the native people were isolated and devoid of fertile land, while these large scale haciendas realized copious earnings. Among the haciendas built during this time, we find the Hacienda de San Antonio del Puente. This beautiful hacienda, apart from having an architecture worthy of its time, has exuberant gardens that make it an absolute paradise.
