Yautepec, one of 33 municipalities in the state of Morelos, is an important tourist destination for its perserved structures from the Villeinado period and archaeological ruins of the pre-hispanic period. Among its tourist destinations we find the Hacienda de Cocoyoc, built in the sixteenth century, which has been transformed without losing its attributes that earned it the moniker of "The Paradise of America" by the first Viceroy of New Spain, Antonio de Mendoza. Warm weather, exceptional gardens, fountains and trails are some of the top attractions. Later on, Hacienda Cocoyoc was in the hands of numerous owners and during the 18th century it was one of the 12 most important sugar mills in the country. The hacienda has 286 rooms, restaurants, a golf course, swimming pools, a spa, tennis courts, a volleyball court, playgrounds, a soccer field, a jogging track, and horseback riding among other amenities.
