Yuriria was founded by Father Fray Diego de Chávez in 1560, to exploit one of the first mines in the Guanajuato region. Its lagoon is considered one of the first hydraulic works of the Colonial period of the American continent and on its banks extends the town of the same name. In Yuriria, pleasant walks, horseback riding or boat rides are the best way to explore and discover this Magical Town. Its name is of purépecha origin that derives from "Yuririapúndaro, that means" Lake of Sangre", which surely, makes allusion to an extinct crater in the zone, in whose bed contained waters of reddish color. It is highly recommended, once in the village, to get to know its lagoon and visit its islands, one of which has the famous Fort of Liceaga.
